First Annual Trivia Night a Resounding Success!

On Saturday night, April 17, Servants for Haiti held its first annual Trivia Night fund raiser.  The event was a major success!  About 70 people participated and $2000 was raised, partially through the $10 admission, the rest through a concurrent silent auction. Everyone who attended expressed their enjoyment of the evening's activities.  There appears to be plenty of demand for a 2nd Annual Trivia Night.  Watch out for details next year at this time. Servants for Haiti would like to thank the following for their donations of auction items: For their generous ...

SCHOOL IS IN!!

After a three month hiatus, school is back in session at College Jean Rigaud Antoine, the school that SFH-supported children attend.  This is a major milestone in the long road to recovery from the devastating earthquake of January 12. The CJRA building had been designated as safe for occupation by Haitian inspectors some time ago, but the government just recently approved reopening schools.  Many school buildings in Port-au-Prince were destroyed, but CJRA sustained minimal damage during the quake and ensuing aftershocks. In spite of the reopening, very few of the ...

The Kids are Back…Inside

More good news from Haiti.  The children who live at the Kingdom Kids Orphanage have begun sleeping inside again.  Until now, the kids and some of the staff have been afraid to sleep inside the building, and were in tents just outside the house. Clearly, the resilient people of Haiti are making progress in their recovery from the earthquake.  This is a major step, especially considering the upcoming rainy season.

Nothing Trivial About This!

Servants for Haiti is hosting a fund raising event that uses trivia for a distinctly non-trivial purpose. On April 17, 2010, at 7:00, there will be a Trivia Night and Silent Auction at Grace Community in Chelmsford.  Entrance fee will be $10 per person, all proceeds going to SFH. Trivia questions in a variety of categories (history, movies, music, geography, etc.) will give you and those at your table a chance to show off your wealth of knowledge, all the while knowing that you are helping a great cause. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening of the ...

New children need sponsors

Since the earthquake, there has been a large influx of children to Kingdom Kids Orphanage.  All these children need to be sponsored for food, medical care, and schooling.  When you prioritize your spending, please consider these little ones who have nowhere else to turn. We thank you and they thank you.

Thanksgiving in March!

Although the situation in Haiti is still grave, there are bright spots to be grateful for.  Our supporters have truly gone the extra mile with us for our friends in Haiti.  Here is a partial list of those who have given us gifts, both large and small but always appreciated. Grace Community Church in Chelmsford, MA, took a one time collection that raised more than $11,000! Two different friends of SFH, Paula Mason and Kathy Ablondie, held baby showers for their daughters.  They both gave the money that they would have spent on favors for their guests to SFH.   ...

Small team trips continue…

Another small team, the third since the earthquake, is on the ground in Haiti.  They return on 3/23 after visiting to support our people there.  Besides bringing supplies and financial support, they will be holding activities to encourage and support the staff at the school and orphanage, as well as the children who live at KKO. Watch this space for a trip report. Meanwhile, consider joining us when full teams resume traveling to Haiti in June.  For more information, see the Future Trips page.
