New children need sponsors

Since the earthquake, there has been a large influx of children to Kingdom Kids Orphanage.  All these children need to be sponsored for food, medical care, and schooling.  When you prioritize your spending, please consider these little ones who have nowhere else to turn. We thank you and they thank you.

Thanksgiving in March!

Although the situation in Haiti is still grave, there are bright spots to be grateful for.  Our supporters have truly gone the extra mile with us for our friends in Haiti.  Here is a partial list of those who have given us gifts, both large and small but always appreciated. Grace Community Church in Chelmsford, MA, took a one time collection that raised more than $11,000! Two different friends of SFH, Paula Mason and Kathy Ablondie, held baby showers for their daughters.  They both gave the money that they would have spent on favors for their guests to SFH.   ...

Small team trips continue…

Another small team, the third since the earthquake, is on the ground in Haiti.  They return on 3/23 after visiting to support our people there.  Besides bringing supplies and financial support, they will be holding activities to encourage and support the staff at the school and orphanage, as well as the children who live at KKO. Watch this space for a trip report. Meanwhile, consider joining us when full teams resume traveling to Haiti in June.  For more information, see the Future Trips page.

A Quest to Help Haitian Children

Some folks at Grace Community Church in Chelmsford, MA, came up with a fun way to help Servants for Haiti. These people are members of a group called "Quest" and they are on a quest for the perfect meal at local restaurants.  Last night, however, they combined that quest with one to help the people of Haiti.  Instead of going out to eat, the group's members brought their own dishes to one member's home and donated the money they would have spent on dining out to SFH. No one suffered for lack of quality food.  The home made specialties were delicious! In the ...

New SFH Web Site!

You've probably noticed it by now - especially since you're reading it - but Servants for Haiti has a new web site.  We've switched to a technology that is more flexible for future expansion.  In the coming weeks (and months and years) expect to see improvements to make communications and giving much easier. Since much of the news we will be posting will be in this blog form, you can comment on it, give feedback, or ask questions. Meanwhile, if you see anything incorrect or missing, or if you have new ideas, please forward your thoughts to the webmaster .  We want ...

CJRA and KKO buildings pass inspection

The two buildings that house the work of SFH, the orphanage and school, have both been inspected by officials and declared structurally sound.  While the children at the orphanage still sleep outside for fear of continuing aftershocks, they spend their days inside the orphanage, playing and eating there. The school needs some minor repair work - a couple of non-structural walls collapsed because they were not quite completed  - but it survived the quake miraculously well, for a building of its size and proximity to the quake's epicenter.

CJRA sponsorship update

We have received some questions regarding the status of the student sponsorship program at College Jean Rigaud Antoine (CJRA).  Specifically, people want to know where the money is going while the school is closed. First, we are working very hard to reopen the school.  It has been declared safe by Haitian authorities, but we have some minor repairs to make.  We must also await the permission of the government to reopen.  We are hoping that will happen very soon, since resuming school will help return a sense of normalcy to the students' lives. In the meantime, ...

KKO Adoption update

Many people have been asking about adoptions from Kingdom Kids Orphanage.  Here is the current status. Several children were already well into the adoption process when the earthquake hit.  All but one of those children have been brought to their new homes in the U.S. through humanitarian visas.  We are still working on the last of these. If you have just begun the adoption process, or wish to do so, please be aware that the full process will be followed.  This process can take years.  This is for the protection of the children involved. Many new children ...
