Going the distance for Haiti…

Serving Haiti is a marathon, not a sprint.  And Servants for Haiti is in it for the long run.  So is Lisa Clemetson. Lisa is the adoptive mother of Roody, a current resident of Kingdom Kids Orphanage (KKO), one of our works in Haiti.   As any good mother would, Lisa wants the very best for her son.  But with Roody so far away, that's a tough task.  She and her husband Todd visit their son as often as possible, but that leaves long stretches of time when he is beyond their care.  Her solution to the dilemma was to raise money so that SFH can hire another caregiver ...

June 2010 trip reports…

Reports are coming in from the latest team to return from Haiti. We will add some short comments over time as we receive them from the folks who traveled there from June 24 to July 2, 2010. Here's an observation from Rebecca, who joined one of our teams for the first time: It was my first trip, but it won't be my last. The despair of the country is overshadowed by the Haitian peoples' joy and thankfulness for life. There is so much we can learn from them. This insight is from Carolyn, a veteran team member, after her first post-earthquake trip: Even though I knew ...

First Annual Trivia Night a Resounding Success!

On Saturday night, April 17, Servants for Haiti held its first annual Trivia Night fund raiser.  The event was a major success!  About 70 people participated and $2000 was raised, partially through the $10 admission, the rest through a concurrent silent auction. Everyone who attended expressed their enjoyment of the evening's activities.  There appears to be plenty of demand for a 2nd Annual Trivia Night.  Watch out for details next year at this time. Servants for Haiti would like to thank the following for their donations of auction items: For their generous ...

SCHOOL IS IN!!

After a three month hiatus, school is back in session at College Jean Rigaud Antoine, the school that SFH-supported children attend.  This is a major milestone in the long road to recovery from the devastating earthquake of January 12. The CJRA building had been designated as safe for occupation by Haitian inspectors some time ago, but the government just recently approved reopening schools.  Many school buildings in Port-au-Prince were destroyed, but CJRA sustained minimal damage during the quake and ensuing aftershocks. In spite of the reopening, very few of the ...

The Kids are Back…Inside

More good news from Haiti.  The children who live at the Kingdom Kids Orphanage have begun sleeping inside again.  Until now, the kids and some of the staff have been afraid to sleep inside the building, and were in tents just outside the house. Clearly, the resilient people of Haiti are making progress in their recovery from the earthquake.  This is a major step, especially considering the upcoming rainy season.

Nothing Trivial About This!

Servants for Haiti is hosting a fund raising event that uses trivia for a distinctly non-trivial purpose. On April 17, 2010, at 7:00, there will be a Trivia Night and Silent Auction at Grace Community in Chelmsford.  Entrance fee will be $10 per person, all proceeds going to SFH. Trivia questions in a variety of categories (history, movies, music, geography, etc.) will give you and those at your table a chance to show off your wealth of knowledge, all the while knowing that you are helping a great cause. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening of the ...
